Godrej Properties | GPL Design Studio
This Adaptive Reuse project was done in collaboration with Studio Lotus. The factory site, an integral part of the history of Godrej was being redeveloped as a Mixed Use Development having the Godrej One and Godrej Two Corporate offices, A Taj Hotel and a residential development, The Trees, as part of it. The Imagine Studio began as a marketing office for The Trees and evolved as a microcosm of the masterplan showcasing 'Life in The Trees'. Preserving the essence of the site's industrial heritage was as important as envisioning the future of the development.
The site consisted of two large industrial sheds and a boiler room. The structures of these were preserved and adapted to serve its new purpose which was to showcase the upcoming residential and commercial properties. These were made into the Studio, Workshop and a Cafe. The timeless architectural forms derived from the current industrial sheds and the materiality of Concrete, Corten Steel, Brass and Timber work on the principle of ‘Wabi-Sabi’, allowing the buildings to age beautifully over time.

Imagine Studio
The primary space, The Studio, was repurposed into the marketing office. The old louvers of the factory shed were redone with Corten Steel with laser cut perforations in them to evoke the dappled light of sunlight through the trees, one of the highlights of the site. The rigid other structure contrasted with the undulating inner structure which demarcated the functional spaces and the silo inspired AV room.
Workshop
The workshop is a multifunctional space which housed the sample apartments, the meeting spaces and a multi purpose gallery for holding cultural and promotional event. This space specially came alive for art installation, customer meets, cultural programs and exhibitions. It had various displays detailing the Biodiversity of the area, the history of Godrej and the legacy of the place.
Boiler Room Cafe
The existing Boiler plant was converted into an all day cafe. The base structure and the boiler on the roof was retained as a memory of its past life and the inner space was refurbished to a dining space. This space also doubled as a meeting and holding area for customers during marketing fairs.
